It is frequently stated that Peter married Rachel Newby., daughter of Nathan and Elizabeth (Hollowell) Newby. There is no evidence in Quaker records checked by compiler or in a 'Newby Genealogy,' privately commissioned by the late Nancy Esther Hutchins Hineman, compiled by the late William Perry Johnson, to indicate this is true. Peter Pearson's will names Nathan Newby brother of Rachel Newby as 'brother.'

Peter Pearsons will names "my seven children" and Rachel Pearsons will names "my six children." Nathan Pearson having predeceased her. Bailey Pearson is nowhere named, giving rise to the possibility that his name was a miscopied version of "Betty."

Our dear love salutes you, desiring all your prosperity in the blessed Truth. Whereas Nathan Newby who has several years lived as a servant with a friend in this city hath signified that he hath an intention to remove himself from here into America and desired a certificate from us: These are therefore to certifie to all whom it may concern that the said Nathan Newby hath carried himself honestly and hath been very dutifully to his master the time of his apprenticeship and service... And also we have nothing to the contrary but that he is clear from all women in this country.
