Land: John's father bequeathed to him 1/2 of Talbott's Ridge on the north side of West River, which he sold, thirty years afterwards, probably to one of his half brothers. The half of Poplar Knowle and the half of Talbott's Timber Neck which he inherited after the death of his brother, Richard Talbott, some years later passed into the possession of his brother Edward TALBOTT.

Note: Abraham Birckhead and William Holland, Sr., were chosen by the vestry as the first Church Wardens of St. James' Parrish. Mr. Holland was probably a kinsman of Colonel William Holland. He served not quite a year as a church warden. Abraham Birckhead served as warden and as Clerk of the vestry, and on April 27, 1701, was elected to the vestry. This day must have been an important one for him. According to the church register "Mr. Abraham Birckhead, age 29 years born October 1675, baptized April 27, 1701," and the next entry on the register: "Elizabeth, daughter of Abraham Birckhead and Rebecca, his wife born April 4, 1701, baptized April 27, 1701. Land: Annapolis, MD (Liber I.B.No 21712-18 Folio.87) 11th Day March 1712, Personally appeared before me one of his Lordships Justices-Abraham Birckhead & at the same time came Rebecca Birckhead his wife.... This Indenture made in ye twelfth year of ye Reigne of Our Sovereigne Lady Anne by ye Grace of God of Great Brittain Ffrance & Ireland Queen & Defender of the ffaith. A.D.1712... Between Abraham Birckhead of A.A. Co.Prov.of Maryland Gent. and only son of their of Abraham Birckhead late of said Co. Dec.-of the one part, & Richard Harrison of CalvertCo. on the other part. Whereas the Rht.Hon Cecilius Calvert-did Grant unto the said Abraham Birckhead, the ffather, a Parcell of land called Birckhead's Chance on branch of Patuxant, to hold the same Abraham Birckhead the ffather & his heirs & the Lord Baltimore did also Grant unto Abraham Birckhead Land called Birckheads Mill in A.A. Co. on a creek called Lyon's Creek and whereas the said Charles Lord Baltimore in 1685 did Grant unto the said Abraham Birckhead the ffather, all that tract called Birckhead's Right 600 acres. To have & to hold he the said Abraham Birckhead, the ffather and his heairs & assigns forever. Birth: Birth recorded in Quaker reords as 23. 3 mo, 1677.
Married: Meeting at the Clifts the 18th Day of the 10th Month 1691 Abraham Birckhead and Rebecca Billingsley laid their intentions of marriage before this Meeting, it being the second Time, and those ??? who were appointed by the last monthly Meeting at West River to inspect into their ??? from former Engagements, Consent of Parents and Relationis, finding no Objections, and the young Womans Parents, signifying their free consent before this meeting doth therefore leave it to them to appoint a Time and Place for the Accomplishment of their intended marriage and Nehemiah Birckhead and Rich Johns are desired to assist them in that affair.
DNA: MKM Land: Purchased 'Poplar Knowles' plantation on West River. "The plantation on which he settled, on the northwest bank of West river, and extending about a mile inland (near the present town of Galesville, a landing of the Chesapeake bay steamboats, and now divided by the public road leading to it), contained two hundred and sixty acres, and had been laid ou four years earlier for John Brown, Christopher Rowles and Richard Moseby, planters. It was between two branches (then called Brown's and Bachelor's) of the river, and adjoined the plantation of Major Richard Ewen, one of the leaders of the Puritan party in Maryland. Will: Plantation "Poplar Knowle" was left to his son Richard; "Talbotts Ridge" to his sons, Edward and John, jointly and to Elizabeth, personality. Richard Galloway was a witness to the will.

Will: Bequeathed to his only child, Sarah, at 16 years of age, the land on the north side of the Severn river, bequeathed to him by his father, Thomas Mears; 330 acres of Mears, Calver co., adjoining his brother-in-law John Homewood's Expectation, Calvert co., 300 acres in Transquakin, Eastern Shore; with reversion to his sister Sarah, wife of John Homewood. There were bequests to the child of his sister-in-law Eliza, wife of William Coale of West river; to his brother-in-law, Samuel Thomas, etc. The executors were Samuel Chew, Philip and Samuel Thomas, his brother-in-law, and Richard Johns.

Note: Sarah's parents died within a short time of each other, the mother first, early in 1675 and she was probably brought up by her aunt Sarah (Mears), wife of John Homewood, who had a plantation in Calvert Co. adjoining one and probably near another which she inherited from her father.
Will: Abraham Birckhead died in AA Co. leaving a will dated Jan 7, 1684, proved Nov 23 1685. In it he left Birkhead's Parcel to his only son Abraham, along with other tracts. He named his wife Anne, and then his nephews Nehemian, Eleazer, and Solomon. He also named his sister Margaret Smith (and her children John, Eliza, Mary and Margaret), and the children of his nephew Thomas Rogers.

Note: After his marriage Francis became very active in QuakerMeetings. His name appears frequently in meeting records ofCliffs, Joppa, Deer Creek, Patuxent, Herring Creeks, and WestRiver Meetings. At the death of his father he appears to havetaken possession of the greater portion of the lands. There wasan estrangement between Francis and his brother John from thisdate which does not appear to have been settled. In 1684 heappears in possission of 'Selby Clifts,' 200 acres, 'DeerQuarter,' 250 acres and 'Corne Hill,' 350 acres.The will of Francis states that wife Susanna and daughterRebecca Birckhead are executors. Residue of estate, real andpersonal, to revert to daughter Sarah and heirs at death ofwife. In event daughter Sarah die without heirs, sd wife to haveentire estate if she be living and at her death sd estate to bedivided among cousins aforesaid, Thomas Billinglsy, SarahRoberts, and Mary Pollard and the 'Eldest son of brotherEdward.'In 1697 'Selby Clifts,' 200 acres was owned by SusannaBillingsley, she sold in 16 Apr 1717 to John Beckett. 'DeerQuarter' was transferred to daughter Rebecca Birckhead at thetime of her marriage, she sold this land to Eleazer Birckhead 15May 1729. 'Corne Hill,' 350 acres was owned by Susanna from 1697to about 1710 when she turned it over to daughter Rebecca andher husband who sold in 12 Oct 1719 to John Mackall.It is supposed that above daughter Sarah died young as the landdue her by her fathers will was shown in the hands of hermother.At a Meeting 8 10 mo. 1699 Robert Gover and Susanna Billingsleylaid their intention of marriage first time; Richard Harrisonand George Royston to make inquirey into their clearness fromformer marriage engagements and what she hath done for herchildren, etc. At a Meeting 2 12 mo. 1699 they laid theirintention before the Meeting for second time ---- (rest of pageis missing).This marriage took place as later deeds and Rent Rolls show heras Susanna Billingsley als Gover , etc. She was living in 1717Calvert Co., MD. Will: Will of Francis Billingsley mentions: Item: To William Richardson Sr. of West River, personality for Quakers on Western Shore. Item: To three cousins, Thomas Billingsley, Sarah Roberts and Mary Pollard, personality. (These are the children of Thomas Billingsley III, the uncle of this Francis and are cousins in fact.) Item: To Thomas Sadler's three children, personality Item: Wife, Susanna and daughter Rebecca Birckhead, executors. Residue of entire estate, real and personal, to revert to daughter Sarah and heirs at death of wife aforesaid. In the event daughter Sarah die without heirs, sd wife to have entire estate if she be living and at her death sd estate to be divided among cousins aforesaid, Thomas Billingsley, Sarah Roberts, and Mary Pollard and the "'eldest son of brother Edward."
