Note: George Colton, known in the record by the title of Quartermaster, from whom descended all of the Coltons in this country so far as known, is said to have come from a town in England called Sunnoncofield. Came first to Windsor, married Deborah Gardner of Hartford, and was one of the first settlers in that part of Springfield called Longmeadow. Note: For seventeen years, he was one of the Selectman, having first been chosen in 1657. In 1669 he was chosen Deputy to the General Court, to which office he was twice re-elected, sitting in 1671 with Captain William Davis, a son-in-law of William Pynchon and a non-resident......From the frequency that he was called to perform public duties it is evident that he was an influential citizen.
