    Notes:

    Census:
    1900 census shows William Scott, b. Feb 1862, 38, married at 18, b. IN, parents b. VA/IN; Maggie, b. Nov 1867, 32, married at 18, 1 child born, 1 living, b. KY, parents b. KY/KY; Jessie C., son, b. Apr 1887, 13.

    Residence:
William Scott is first mentioned in the Deming Headlight news. It is reported that he has moved in to a ranch in Hondale and that he is an expert on chickens, having won many prizes at fairs.
Over the years he moves around a lot, in 1915 he visits Indianapolis, in 1916 it is reported he has traded his Hondale property for an 8 room house in San Antonio and yet never leaves town, a week later he is reported fencing the Hondale property.
In 1917 he leases out his "Chicken Hawk Ranch" and says he is going to Florida for 2 years.

    Census:
1920 census at Mead Township, Spokane, WA shows William A. Scott, 57, b. IN, parents b. VA/VA; Leona L., 50, b. KY, parents b. KY/KY. The census records that neither of them have an occupation and that the house is owned without a mortgage.

    Residence:
Nov 19, 1920: Mrs. Wm. Scott arrived on Thursday accompanied by her son, Robert King, of Minnesota, who met his mother in Greeley, Colo., from where they came in a car.....

    Note:
After the arrival of William with his new bride, in 1919, the couple appears in the local paper on a regular basis.
For example: Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Scott entertained guests....; Mrs. Scott entertained ladies and served waffles; Dr. and Mrs. Scott return from Washington, etc. etc.
Beginning in 1922 the couple is never mentioned again, as a couple. In March of 1922 Leona runs advertisements for lodgers at her home on Silver Avenue.
In July of 1922 Leona takes over management of the American Cafe at 106 Silver Avenue, waffles being a specialty. Ads for the restaurant list Mrs. L. L. Scott as the proprietor. This is a clue as to the state of her marriage to William as a woman is generally not called or referred to by her "Christian" name unless unmarried or a widow.
In September of 1922 it is reported that the Cafe reopened under new management and Leona is never mentioned in the papers again.

    Census:
1930 census shows William A. Scott, residing at 212 Gold St., 68, widower, age at first marriage 20, b. IN, parents b. VA/IN, proprieter repair shop.

    Note:
In settling the estate of William A. Scott a newspaper article sought to find the following people: Sarah N. Scott, Jesse Carl Scott, Goldie Eliza (Baxter) Scott; Mrs. John J. Quinn, and Mrs. Cary H. Fleishman.
It seems possible that some of these people may be family of William's. I do see the following in the 1900 census at Indianapolis, Marion, IN.
    William Scott, 38, b. Feb 1862, married 18 years, b. IN, parents b. VA/IN, livery man; Maggie, 32, 1 child born/ 1 living, b. Nov 1867, b. KY, parents b. KY/KY; Jessie C., 13, b. Apr 1877.

    Children:
    1. Jesse C. SCOTT was born on 1 Apr 1887; died on 8 Feb 1928 in Central Indiana State Hospital, Indianapolis, Marion, IN.

William married Leona Leota WELDON about 1919. Leona (daughter of John Crittendon WELDON and Mary Wood SANDIDGE) was born on 17 Feb 1869 in Hart Co., KY; died on 7 Jul 1924 in Marion Co., IN; was buried in New Crown Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion, IN. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
