    The half of Poplar Knowle and the half of Talbott's Timber Neck which he inherited after the death of his brother, Richard Talbott, some years later passed into the possession of his brother Edward TALBOTT.

    Abraham Birckhead and William Holland, Sr., were chosen by the vestry as the first Church Wardens of St. James' Parrish. Mr. Holland was probably a kinsman of Colonel William Holland. He served not quite a year as a church warden.
    Abraham Birckhead served as warden and as Clerk of the vestry, and on April 27, 1701, was elected to the vestry. This day must have been an important one for him. According to the church register "Mr. Abraham Birckhead, age 29 years born October 1675, baptized April 27, 1701," and the next entry on the register: "Elizabeth, daughter of Abraham Birckhead and Rebecca, his wife born April 4, 1701, baptized April 27, 1701.

    Purchased 'Poplar Knowles' plantation on West River. "The plantation on which he settled, on the northwest bank of West river, and extending about a mile inland (near the present town of Galesville, a landing of the Chesapeake bay steamboats, and now divided by the public road leading to it), contained two hundred and sixty acres, and had been laid ou four years earlier for John Brown, Christopher Rowles and Richard Moseby, planters.
    It was between two branches (then called Brown's and Bachelor's) of the river, and adjoined the plantation of Major Richard Ewen, one of the leaders of the Puritan party in Maryland.

    Plantation "Poplar Knowle" was left to his son Richard; "Talbotts Ridge" to his sons, Edward and John, jointly and to Elizabeth, personality. Richard Galloway was a witness to the will.

He also named his sister Margaret Smith (and her children John, Eliza, Mary and Margaret), and the children of his nephew Thomas Rogers.

    After his marriage Francis became very active in QuakerMeetings. His name appears frequently in meeting records ofCliffs, Joppa, Deer Creek, Patuxent, Herring Creeks, and WestRiver Meetings. At the death of his father he appears to havetaken possession of the greater portion of the lands. There wasan estrangement between Francis and his brother John from thisdate which does not appear to have been settled. In 1684 heappears in possission of 'Selby Clifts,' 200 acres, 'DeerQuarter,' 250 acres and 'Corne Hill,' 350 acres.The will of Francis states that wife Susanna and daughterRebecca Birckhead are executors. Residue of estate, real andpersonal, to revert to daughter Sarah and heirs at death ofwife. 'Corne Hill,' 350 acres was owned by Susanna from 1697to about 1710 when she turned it over to daughter Rebecca andher husband who sold in 12 Oct 1719 to John Mackall.It is supposed that above daughter Sarah died young as the landdue her by her fathers will was shown in the hands of hermother.At a Meeting 8 10 mo. 1699 Robert Gover and Susanna Billingsleylaid their intention of marriage first time; Richard Harrisonand George Royston to make inquirey into their clearness fromformer marriage engagements and what she hath done for herchildren, etc. At a Meeting 2 12 mo. 1699 they laid theirintention before the Meeting for second time ---- (rest of pageis missing).This marriage took place as later deeds and Rent Rolls show heras Susanna Billingsley als Gover , etc. She was living in 1717Calvert Co., MD.
