    Thomas Stone and Dennis Garret purchased land from Edward Montford of Baltimore County. "For a valuable consideration already inhand, received and paid by said Thomas Stone and Dennis Garret, before sealing and delivery of these presents, does clearly and absolutely give grant and assign.......tract of landcalled Long Island Point, lieing in Baltimore County on the North side of Patapsco on the Northwest branch of the rifer beginning...........100 acres more or less, and to Thomas Stone and Dennis Garrett, their heirs and assigns forever.
    This land was occupied by Dennis Garrett and wife, Barbara Stone after their marriage.

    Died:
    Dennis Garrett died from a blow to the head inflicted 31 July 1691 by John Oldton who was tried, convicted, condemed to hang but later given a royal pardon.

    "On the 31st of July 1691 at Baltimore, John Oldton with force and arms in and upon the body of Dennis Garret then and there an assault did make and him the said Dennis with one sword of the value of 20 shillings being the proper sword of the said John Ouldton upon the forehead of the said Dennis one blow did give of which said blow the said Dennis immediately from the 30th day of July aforesaid until the 2nd day of September did languish on which 2nd day of Sept. in the year and at the place aforesaid the said Denniss Garret of the said blow did die. "

    John Stone was deeded 500 acres on each side of the Chesapeake Bay by his brother 'for natural love and affection.'

    Will:
    Executors of John's will were his third wife, Eleanor and son Thomas, eldest son of his first wife, Elizabeth.
    Eleanor's son, Walter and Elizabeth's eldest son, Thomas received equally of dwelling plantation, "Poynton Manor," 500 acres each and St. Johns plantation. Walter was to have the portion of Poynton manor where the homestead dwelling was located, after the death of his mother. Sons Matthew and John were to receive Mangawoman Plantation of 500 acres. Daughers Eleanor and Elizabeth were given 400 acres of Durwin.
    Seven children were mentioned in a subsequent accounting by widow Eleanor. They were Thomas, John, Barbara, Matthew, Walter, Eleanor and Elizabeth.

    William Stone first settled in Accomac Co., VA, on the Eastern Shore where he was granted 1800 acres. His mother was probably a Poynton since the Poynton and Stone families lived in Derbyshire in the 1660's. He named his Maryland home, 'Poynton Manor.'

    Will:
    Gov. Stone made his will on 2 Dec 1660. It was proved 21 Dec 1660, in Charles County by Francis Doughty, Steven Montague, Stephen Clifton. Overseers and guardians of the minor children were: Gov. Josiah Fendall, brother-in-law Francis Doughty, and brother Matthew Stone.
    His will:
    I constitute my beloved son, Thomas Stone, sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament.......... If he should die, his brother Richard, is to take his place and after him, his brother, John is to act.
    Eldest daughter, Elizabeth Stone, formerly given 900 acres of land at Bustard Island, also to receive 600 acres in Nangomy.
    Beloved son, Richard, all cattle given him by his Uncle Richard Stone, etc., and 500 acres in Nangomy.
    Other children, John, Matthew, Mary and Catherine, to receive stock, etc., and land out of nangomy; John 500 acres, Matthew 500 acres.
    Good wife Verlinda Stone, my house and lands in St. Mary's and one fourth of all my Estate and Goods, during her life and unmarried.

    Will:
    Verlinda Stone's will makes her son John to be the executor. She gives to Benomy Thomas, 400 acres of land called St. Verlinda and also 6 silver spoons. To her "dearest daughter Doyen" her silver salt. After all other bills are paid the estate goes to executor John Stone, her son.

    Note: The daughter Doyen refers to her daughter Mary who married first a Mr. Thomas and then Robert Doyen. Benomy Thomas is a son from that first marriage.
