    • 'The First Century of Springfield,' p. 551 (no other info.recorded). Benjamin Cooley was here in 1644, his name appearing in the records of that year. Two years after his arrival he was chosen a selectman and served in that office 18 years, the longest period of service given by one person. He was much employed in town affairs and was on all important committees during his active life. Samuel Terry was bound to service by William Pynchon to Benjamin Cooley, 'weaver,' for three years and six months, and it would appear that Cooley must have been engaged in weaving in England before coming to this country. His marriage is not on record here.
